Our story begins reflecting on the passions from which we were birthed. Our Golden 8 Ale returns from the recipe books, forged with a brazen trial by tequila barrel. After all, our story simply couldn't begin without first tasting our origins, combining our love for the traditions of ale and innovations of barrel aging. Cheers!
While Jeff was on his Belgian kick and reading about the monasteries, he got it in his head that he was a monk. Jeff wanted to be like the monks and make a Belgian trippel. He gave his beer a simple name like the monks, based around the starting gravity of the beer.

Golden 8 is aged in tequila barrels, giving the beer just a hint of tequila--not like a crazy college night you'll regret the next day. It was a monumental experiment--one of the brewers got to pick their own kind of barrels, and he chose tequila. It was the first time a non-Jeff brewer at Crabtree to got select the type of barrel, and we couldn't be more proud of the results.
